Yerington Monday:  Fourth of July Parade

This is what my home town of Yerington, Nevada would have looked like when I was a kid on 4th of July parade. I would have been in the band wearing white oxfords and marching through the cow piles. Good memories.

Peggy Freitas Purintun That's how I remember main street. Well, maybe not the cows but the rest of it.

Meredith Mayeroff That's how I remember it too. Just like a small town main street should look.

Mary Burns Do you see all the buildings that were torn down for a casino barn on Main St?? (casino there now) A lot of real old ,nice buildings gone for a huge shed....

Mary Burns Here are the buildings torn down for the huge eye sore onion barn on our once beautiful Main St (please add any I have forgotten) L and L(Kopr Kornr), Dr Tebbes, Lyon Bar, Lyon Hotel, Carls Café, Owl Ba,r Carl O Gelmstedt, the old Lyon Mkt, Phil Delongchamps, Emporium, Mason Valley Hdw, old Rex Drug, Thrifty Mkt, Silver Palace. That's 14 neat buildings from the day flattened, What a shame and thankfully , its now a crime.

Timothy McGowan When Masini first build the aforementioned monstrosity, the whole thing was painted dead white. Yeah, 'onion shed' describes it quite well. Remember the neat old guns and other antiques that Dr. Tebbe had displayed in his office windows? And nobody bothered them. Try that today! I seem to remember someone telling me that Dr. Tebbe's office used to be a freight office, or something like that, and Fred Stallard was the proprietor. Last place I remember Fred was in the F & B cafe just to the South.

Timothy McGowan Remember when television first came to Yerington? We were in Jr. High, if memory serves. Bill Vincel (Mason Valley Hardware) set one up in the big picture window of his store and had it on, maybe 24/7. People used to stop outside the store and watch the tube through the window.

Mary Burns My Dad thought tv was a fad, so we were the last ones in Yer to get one I think the Tingles had one of the first TVs When we finally got one , the pic was snowy and Industry on Parade was on over and over (but we never left the room) Sat am started with SKy King, Rin Tin TIn, Cisco Kid, Wild BIll HIckock, Hopalong Cassiday, Roy Rogers, and Annie Oakley. That's all I can recall right now.

Chere Brown I remember when we got TV on West Street. John Young (of True Value Hardware & John's Cafe) was installing the antenna on our roof. He fell off and broke his back. I think we had three channels that all went off at midnight.

Mary Burns Hap McGee owned the Longhorns and for rodeo he would drive them thru town, even though the animals had nothing to do with the Yerington Rodeo He only did it a few times.

Peggy Freitas Purintun This has been great fun reading all of this and brings back lots of memories of people I thought I had forgotten. Tim. Mary, and Chere, you guys are the best with your spot on memories. Keep it up.
