Yerington Monday: Ten Mile Sack Race
Do you remember when Mike Lommori, one of our teachers, won the 12-mile sack race from Wabuska to Yerington in 1964?
Comments
- Meredith Mayeroff He was one of my very favorite teachers, I wouldn't know how to balance a checkbook or park a car if were not for him!
- Sylvia Banta Totally remember that. He is a great man and touched so many of us. Love him.
- Donna Johnson That was such a fun day. I remember it so well and when we were all together in Yerington we went to the museum. The museum had the whole story about the sack race and I was lucky enough to be standing next to Jim Sanford who added some extra details. You tell new friends about this and they are totally in awe of Mr. Lommori. What a story!
- Dawnette Kelley I remember Mr. Lommori. He was a really awesome teacher:-) I had a crush on him. I moved to Reno in January of 1964:-( sad I wasn't there for this event.
- Thank you for sharing
- John Crawford Like many people from Yerington, I "remember" seeing the finish of that unique race. Or maybe I saw the 8mm home movie my dad shot that day. Maybe it wasn't my dad who made the movie. But it was Mr. Lommori running with that famous sack. That's what makes it a memory.
- Chere Brown John, I see you are like so many of us our age. We have the memory, but how it all occurred seems to blend. The bottom line is "we know what we know."
- Mary Burns I was there for the entire deal. There were 5 or so others running for Nevada Chub Quilici RIchard Burnett, Bill JOnes, Fred Andresen, SteveERb I think and I know I have missed someone) .... And Mike Lommori told me they made $$ by all the side bets I remember Mike running with that sack on his back the last many miles They could stop to rest, but couldn't put the sack down
- Liz Merrill Mason Mr. Lommori was one of my favorite teachers. I remember his wife did my hair for senior ball. Seems like I had him for something in 8th grade too but don't. Recall what. State history? I think Meredith was in my bookkeeping class. It was because of that class being so much fun I majored in accounting.
