Yerington Monday: Yerington History--The Two Brothers
Robert Delos Smith, M.D. moved his family to Yerington from Chicago in 1904 so he could practice medicine. They had a very good practice and he had helped build a hospital. Dr. Smith went on a trip to a medical convention by train at the end of September 1913. When he arrived in Denver, Colorado he wired home for his bathrobe as he was starting a cold. He developed pneumonia and on October 2, 1913 he died.
His brother Judson G R Smith was working as a Pharmacist and was Yerington’s 1st elected Mayor, but only for a short time. The family eventually moved in 1916 to Berkeley, California.
